Video Transcript for Blue Ox King Pin Lock Review

What's up everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we'll be checking out the blue ox kingpin lock. It's gonna go right here on your kingpin, it's gonna deter any theft. Because it's gonna cover up the point where you contact and hook up to your fifth wheel. So with this on there nobody can hook up to this when you're not around, let's check it out. Let's take a closer look at it, and how it works.

You get two keys with it, you got the cylinder lock in there. So just insert the key, turn it, pops out. Then you can release it. Then you gonna look on the inside. And you see what happens when you go to lock it, just turn that key.

And this pin comes in and that's what's holding it on that lip there. So it's keeping anybody from hooking up to it. It's made out of a light alloy, so it is very lightweight. I like that it's not super heavy to use, and it's gotta have epoxy coating around it too. So that's gonna help it hold up to the elements, when you leave it outside.

'Cause you're just gonna put this on when you're gonna leave. You push the pin in, turn the key and releases the key. And this stays in there like that, and it's attached. Obviously, no lock is perfect. So really it's a theft to deterrent.

Because people are gonna be walking down the line, they see yours that has a lock. They're just gonna probably skip it and go to one that doesn't have a lock. But I will say it stays on there, pretty good. You can shake and pull on it, show you there's no cracking or any issues. It doesn't seem like it's gonna slip off there, it's on there pretty good. Something I was curious about is if I can even get a screwdriver in there to pry on this lock. So we're gonna give it a shot. Looks like I can pry in from there, it does fit. And I could push down from right there but it's not getting too much of a grip. And you can see as I do that, it's not going anywhere, it's pushing it down. But this is gonna slip out before it actually pushes it out. And something I wanna point at the bottom is that the kingpin head here fills up that whole space. So there's no gap in the bottom to get a screwdriver, to get more leverage. So I kind of was impressed by that part. You see you, looks like I found a little bit right there but it isn't much at all. It'll slip out right away when I try to at that in there. Now there are a few different versions of these, they are all usually the same design though. The cylinder goes around the pin itself, usually comes down to what it's made out of, and what the lock is. So like I said, we kind of had a barrel lock or a cylinder lock on this one. There is another one that has a tumble lock. Those are the kinds that's from Amp Lock, they make one it's made out of a heavier duty outside. I mean, it's just heavier to lift. But then the inside and the lock is aluminum lock. So it's got like a thousand or a million different combinations. So it's very hard to pick that or even drill that. So that would be something to look at, if you are in a maybe a sketchier area. You wanna look out for a little bit more, you wanna secure your thing. That's another option you can have but I think this is gonna work just fine. It didn't seem flimsy. It feels like it's gonna hold up here on the pin just fine. The lock seems solid. I like the way the keys are designed. Where you turn it, it pops out you know it's unlocked, you can remove it. And you put it back in there to push that back in, and turn it. And it stays where it's supposed to be. Well, that really about does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helped..
